About Elska Akureyri (Iceland):

They said it couldn't be done… to make an issue full intimate photography and stories of local boys in Iceland's second city, a town with barely 20,000 people… but here it is: Elska Akureyri!

Ten years after visiting Reykjavík to make the third issue of Elska, we've returned to make a dream come true, another Elska made in Iceland. Inside this issue, we'll introduce you to northern Iceland through some of its local men. Each participant (aka ‘elskan’) did a photoshoot that showcased them in their city streets and in some of the stunning local landscapes that surround Akureyri. Each was also photographed in their own homes, revealing their beautiful, real, naked bodies and their personalities.

In addition to the photography, a long-format narrative traces the journey of writer and photographer Liam Campbell as he travels to Akureyri and spends time with these men. This allows readers to get even closer to each elskan and to get a bit of a feel for what it's like to be queer and live in such a small and rather isolated place.

We also recommend ordering two related publications to complete the Elska Akureyri story. First is our companion publication, ‘Ekstra Akureyri’, which includes hundreds of additional images from all our Akureyringar along with some further behind the scenes notes. Second is a separate zine called ‘NÆS 01 (Restless Relentlessly)', which includes the stories and images of three men we shot in the Reykjavík area: Haukur G, Sveinn S, and Guðjón B. Both publications are available separately, or they are included if you order the ‘deluxe’ option.
