Elska Print no. 103: "Avant que l’ombre…"

Photographed by Liam Campbell, this portrait is of Mert E, the 103rd subject photographed for Elska, part of our Elska Casablanca (Morocco) series.

Mert was originally photographed for our 6th issue, Elska Istanbul, but this image comes from our 35th issue, Elska Casablanca. In one of those very rare coincidences, I found myself passing through Istanbul on a flight layover and decided to meet Mert again for a drink. But then while we were together, we decided to try doing an impromptu second shoot, the results of which went into our ‘Elska Ekstra Casablanca’ e-zine. Here's the final scene taken with him, before the shadow… named after the Mylène Farmer song that was playing over and over in my head whilst I edited this shoot.
